Many collectors feel it is safe to buy certified or slabbed coins. Little do they know that they are wrong.

Slabs can be opened and lower grade coins placed inside the slab. Counterfeit or altered coins can also be placed inside a slab.

Some dealers will say that a return policy is not necessary. The coin is certified by o of the larger grading companys. What they do not say is that changes can take place to a coin, even if the coin is in a slab.

Listed below are images from a NGC Certified MS 68 1995 Lincoln cent doubled die. These are the actual images used on an eBay lot. Look at the coin very carefully. Looks like a real gem.

Boy was I surprised when the coin arrived. The black spots on the images below destroy the value of the coin. These are called carbon spots. The coin would be very hard to sell, much less get MS 68 Rd prices for the coin.

Since the seller offered a return policy, I was only out the shipping cost. The seller accepted the returned coin very professionally.

Protect yourself...NEVER buy numismatic items from a dealer that does not offer a return policy.
