Class V : Pivoted Hub Doubling
Pivoted hub doubling occurs when the working hub is not properly aligned with the working die during the hubbing process. With this form of doubling, the pivot point is located around the rim, not in the center of the die as in Class I (Rotated Hub Doubling).
What to look for :
The doubling is strongest on one side (left or right) of the coin, with little or no doubling on the opposite side of the coin. The doubling will increase as you travel around the rim of the coin until you come to the widest doubling. From this point on, the doubling starts to decrease till you return to the starting point with no doubling (Pivot point).
This 1942 Washington Quarter is Die 3 for this year.
